Decision-making

 

The Cottage is run by a Voluntary Management Committee, which is elected annually at the AGM, held in the first half of the autumn term. The Management Committee consists of a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer, plus committee members. The Nursery legally cannot function without this committee. The committee is supported by the Pre-school Learning Alliance & Surestart in its’ role.

The prime role of the committee is to ensure that major decision-making is in the hands of the parents who use the group. The Committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice, and for recruitment and employment of staff as well as the annual appraisals of those staff members. Together with the control of the finances of the Cottage, including fees and much needed ‘fundraising’ for the development of facilities.

The St James Cottage recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their children. Our setting aims to support parents and they are invited:

  • To work in the group with the children
  • To assist with the fund-raising
  • To take part in the management of the nursery
